the Mynabirds "Body of Work"

Following her live band membership in Bright Eyes, Laura Burhenn continues to lead the sprightly Mynabirds. Released as a 7" with an origami sleeve, "Body of Work" is off the Mynabirds' second album, Generals, released mid-2012 via Saddle Creek. Mynabirds is now based in Omaha, just like Saddle Creek, yay. The earthy, artistic video for "Body" matches the song's organic glow. Comparable to Florence and the Machine making love to Lykke Li in a dense forest. -Kenyon

And then God made Chrome Canyon. Good press quote there. This Chrome Crayon stuff is the bomb. Oh wait, Chrome CANYON, even better! That reflects the grand, sci-fi synths. This is off Canyon's Elemental Themes album, releasing October 9, 2012 from Stones Throw. Canyon is in response to nothing futuristic happening in 2000, and this is very understandable. Chief, the latest artist on Domino records, gives

us first song from album due in August 2010.

Formed in New York before returning to their original turf in Caleefornya, Chief's debut album, Modern Rituals, is scheduled for August 17, 2010 on the phenomenal Domino records. First cut "Night and Day" (not the Cole Porter song) bonds like Band of Horses and shines like the Shins. -Kenyon

Graham Coxon re-joined last year to play festivals and junk. And now, this new zzzz i'm sleeping tune, which could have been a B-side from Blur's Modern Life is Rubbish. "Fool's Day" doesn't even sound finished. At least it's better than Stink Tank. -Kenyon

Kaki King > new cut + album + NYC dates

The next album from Kaki King is out April 13, just before her New York dates at Music Hall of Williamsburg on April 15 and Bowery Ballroom on April 16. This first taste, "Falling Day," is rich in heavenly harmonies. Stick with it after the common guitar intro. This is what Liz Phair should have been doing instead of dumbing herself down to an Avril Lavigne clone with the atrocious "Why Can't I?." When that song hit in 2003, there was loss of faith in humanity. -Kenyon
