movies left for dead.
this has nothing to do with halloween coming soon. i do this all year round, suckerrrr!
------------------------------

Blood Sucking Freaks (1976) Misleading title and cover--there is only one freak that does any sucking and it's only one scene. The original title was actually The Incredible Torture Show, which makes hella more sense. Hella hella hella. BSF is a gorey S&M torture film that overcomes the dreadful acting with dismemberment, nude slave brainwashed girls and a leader of the freakazoids (whose sidekick is a black midget) who periodically enjoys getting submissive just like his slaves. Over the top shock value for its time and effin bizarre to say the least. [rating ***] -Kenyon
-----------
See No Evil (2006) * Typical slash trash, but note that it "stars" Kane from WWE. In the weeks prior to its release, the WWE was promoting this and had Kane tie it in to the drama on the show. Everytime someone spoke the date of its release--Rey Mysterio got tricked into doing this--Kane would come out and go berzerk and beat down on whoever said it. The thing that stood out and sucked like a sore thumb was that the biggest jerk of the group of kids/victims was one of the survivors. Kane should have choke-slammed the shit of him. [rating *] -Kenyon
---------------

The Hitcher (2007 remake) All these jerk writers can't think of something new. Remakes/re-imaginings/whatever of Friday the 13th, Halloween, My Bloody Valentine and Last House on the Left have put a damper on the horror genre. Although Hills Have Eyes remake effin RULED. Original Hitcher wasn't widely remembered or is a cult classic. With improved effects it can only make junk like the new version more bloody and violent, which makes this a reason to see. The Hitcher is indeed predictable, although the roles of the boy and girl are reversed from the first film. It's also more implausible than the average horror movie. The maniac that stalks and plays mind games has little character and it hurts the movie's substance, not to mention his ability to easily and quickly pursue them. The reasoning for his actions--which results in the destruction of most of the New Mexico police force!--are avoided, albeit for the last scene in which he suggests that it "feels good." [rating **] -Kenyon

Jawbox to play on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on December 8, 2009.

Holy cow, Jawbox, who released the killer-riffed "Savory" from For Your Own Special Sweetheart in 1994, will be seeing a reissue of that album November 24 and will be on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon on December 8. And they will play "Savory." This will be the band's first performance of any kind in 12 years, although we can bet they will tour. Shockingly, the post-hardcore band was signed to Atlantic Records--which happened more than enough in the 90s with those kind of artists, but that's another story. They are now with Dischord and their own DeSoto Records, thank god. -Kenyon

The Flaming Lips "I Can Be A Frog"

This is an odd choice to release as a "single" or a video. It's short (more like an interlude or teaser) and wacky and the human-produced animal sounds are annoying. But it IS the Flaming Lips, afterall. New album out next month.

Lymbyc Systym : new track + album

Mush records is gonna blop the next full-length from Lymbyc System (Jared and Michael Bell) on November 3, 2009. Very futuristic. The first cut made public from new album Shutter Release follows their previous magical instrumental indie rock. The duo is living separately in Brooklyn and Austin, but are on tour this month with the Books. Shutter Release was mixed by John Congleton (Modest Mouse, St. Vincent, Explosions in the Sky) and if you've never heard of Lymbyc Systym before and need more credentials, they've toured with Broken Social Scene, Crystal Castles, The Album Leaf and Her Space Holiday. -Kenyon

DD/MM/YYYY - new tunes + tour dates

After a few months of being put-off by the absurd band name, this Toronto, Canada act catapulted themselves in front of me, and i was like, whoaaaa, CASSETTE. The jagged left-field experimental rock band is giving us a U.S release of its third album, Black Square, which is gonna be put to the test September 15 via digital and CASSETTE format. Radddd. After originally releasing Black Square in Canada in April, the DD/MM/YYYY was on the roads with Crystal Castles, Japanther and Dan Deacon. So obviously they are hip. I am sorry i ever doubted you, DD/MM/YYYY. -Kenyon

REVOLTING COCKS to tour North America for the first time since the late 1980s. Band will release Sex-O MiXXX-O in late September, a collection of remixes from their 2009 album Sex-O Olympic-O.

Holy crapes, the deliberately offensive RevCo has been re-charged by industrial metal icon Al Jourgensen and co. after Jourgensen ended Ministry this year. Jim Rose will host the shows, plus openers Blownload and Left Spine Down. RevCo started with Jourgensen, Luc Van Acker and Richard 23 from Front 242. The new line-up has Jourgensen joined by singer Josh Bradford, guitarist Sin Quirin, keyboardist/electronicist Clayton Worbeck, drummer Aaron Rossi (Ministry, Prong) and bassist Murv Douglas (Powerman 5000).

movies left for dead

Headless Eyes (1972) [rating: *] Weirdo artist tries to steel a girl's money. After she gouges his eye out with a spoon, he is now obsessed with doing the same to random victims. He takes the eyes and then does creative things with them, like putting them in ice cubes. Headless Eyes is terribly made with many pointless, dragging scenes, but considering this is from the early 1970s, the gore involving eyeballs must have been shocking. The most memorable--and quite hilarious--scene is at the opening when the guy's eyeball is hanging and the audio for his screaming is looped as he's climbing down the fire escape. -Kenyon
-----------------------------
Spasms (1982) [rating: *1/2] A wealthy man is obsessed with resurrecting the spirit of a giant demon snake. It's just something he has to do. Peter Fonda's character and the man's neice fail in following the creature, while studying the obsessed man's telepathic connection he has with the snake. After biting people to death and causing spasms, the snake makes its way to the guy who has the supposed connection and the snake kills him, even though they had that telepathic connection. Bad snake, bad movie. -Kenyon

Piney Gir--i prefer calling her Pony Girl--is in London making cupcakes and knitting twee with country. And by country, i mean old school original country like Patsy Cline, especially for the butter-churning "Of All the Wonderful Things." With help from backing band the Age of Reason, Piney Gir is supporting her new album The Yearling, which is released next month. It includes first focus song "Say I'm Sorry" and "For the Love of Others," which features a sing-along of "he loves me, he loves me not" and a tuba! -Kenyon

"...leave some time to wander around." That's all we SEE here is people wandering around! Girl, i'll show you something AWESOME. Farrell with Leann Rimes killed the respect right there. Or is that his wife? I...I can't tell them apart. If you need to see Perry and wife Etty for sure, there's this new single/video just released and it's a strong candidate for worst thing of the year.

WWE Smackdown/ECW
at Nassau Coliseum, Long Island.
August 4, 2009. Aired on NY Channel 9 August 7.

matches included: jeff hardy vs CM punk (2.5 matches), christian vs tommy dreamer (extreme rules), rey mysterio vs mike knox, john morrison vs smaller guy from the stupid hart dynasty, mike knox vs dolf ziggler vs finlay vs r-truth (fatal 4-way for championship match at summer slam), chris jericho vs JTG, great khali vs ricky ortiz (with kane attacking).

big russian guy vs huge black dude. and a small white dude on floor.

favorite current intro theme music

E! C! W! Tommy Dreamer also brought out a hotdog cart with hotdogs.

notes: rare appearance of mr. mcmahon. tommy dreamer with hotdog cart and hotdogs, kane dragging khali's manager through the crowd, really boring talking at beginning of ECW (shelton benjamin, zakk ryder), CM punk laying in ring till the very very end, matt hardy guest outside ref helping jeff win, no women's match.

John Morrison intro.

Hart Dynasty won't last long. I bet they go to TNA.

white rice? welllll it's the BIG SHOW. and his music is terrible
when mashed with Chris Jericho's.

tallest wrestler ever.

build the cage! faster! get more helpers!

building cage was a waste of time. this match was a quick extra after the
real show was over and it lasted one minute.

CM punk waiting for the ref to tell him that everyone in the arena has left.

he's still there. bizarre.

Wowzer holy cow! new Circulatory System and tour dates and junk.

The very long awaited Signal Morning will be in CD and digital September 8, 2009. Taking seven years to finish, Circulatory System is pretty much Olivia Tremor Control and a couple people from Neutral Milk Hotel. Amazingly, leader W. Cullen Hart put this together while battling Multiple Sclerosis. New cut "Overjoyed" is available now and is a stunning piece of subcultural bliss. Are we looking at the next Loveless? Prolly not, but it's still gonna RULE. -Kenyon
